SuperHub South – The story so far

Yearsley Logistics is proudly leading the way in the frozen logistics sector.  The exciting new Peterborough SuperHub is proof of this and also in their commitment to the future of frozen.

The depot at the Great Haddon Employment Zone near Peterborough will become the UK’s largest single-site temperature controlled facility and will create more than 300 new jobs. The first phase is starting to take shape and is set for completion in September 2018, when the temperature will be pulled down to minus 30 degrees and the depot will immediately become operational. Subsequent phases will follow over the next few years.

The investment will create the latest in a series of SuperHubs across the UK, part of Yearsley Logistics’ strategic plan to minimise food miles and increase operational efficiency on behalf of its customers; food manufacturers, retailers and catering providers nationally.  SuperHub South will serve the South of England and the major shipping ports with an eventual 150,000 pallet capacity.

With over four million pallets being delivered annually and demand for increased capacity outstripping supply, Yearsley Logistics recognised the need for a new frozen site close to major motorway networks and ports.

Fewer miles in the supply chain provides the opportunity for customers to negate cost increases in the future.

To complement the national network of stores, SuperHub South provides the gateway to reducing food miles through its location and capacity. Serving the manufacturing heartland of East Anglia and import routes through the South of England, this facility unlocks cost savings within the supply chain and enables price resilience.  Location is a vital part of choosing a service provider – travelling unnecessary miles causes excess diesel consumption and driver time increases that both equate to cost. The Peterborough store enables Yearsley Logistics to better service customer requirements by providing efficient solutions within its national network of facilities.

Tim Moran, Managing Director comments, “With more than 50% of the food in the UK being imported, creating a SuperHub that is equidistant to UK ports of entry and manufacturing plants makes complete sense.  It enables us to service the whole of the UK from our regional depots and SuperHubs quickly and cost effectively.

“SuperHub South is the next generation of sites within the Yearsley family that serves our customer first strategy.”

Over the years, Yearsley Logistics have set the standards in frozen food logistics and continue to lead the way in how companies manage their stock.  Relationships are built on transparency and trust – providing customers with the infrastructure, tools and information that make life easy and help their businesses become more competitive.
